Manager, Business Development: Deborah Pella-Smith
Deborah Pella-Smith is the mother of 3 young boys, Nathon 10, Jason 7, and Jarrod 5. This role has suited her well as her interests and activities have always revolved around education and the environment. In pursuit of a Masters of Conflict Resolution in Switzerland, Deborah designed a survey research project which investigated the legitimacy of existing economic inequalities in society, with an emphasis on extreme poverty. She had also been invited by the National Conference on Peacemaking and Conflict Resolution Leadership Team to help plan the 1999 international gathering through participation on two action teams (Intercultural and Environment). While attending the University of Western Ontario in London, Deborah had been awarded the Northern Scientific Training Grant for the independent investigation of the Arctic Environmental Strategy in Whitehorse, Yukon. There she also organized and edited information to support the EDA Carcross Caribou Funding Proposal for the Council for Yukon Indians in Whitehorse, Yukon.
Deborah has been home for her children since the birth of Nathon. She has been an active community volunteer in the field of education, both childhood and adult. She has organized and hosted workshops on various topics as well as being instrumental in ongoing educational programs with an emphasis on group dynamics and cross-cultural understanding. She and her husband share the fundamental belief that access to education and its resources is critical for mankind to reach its yet unrealized potential.
