Dana M. Jean Dana M. JeanDana has spent much of her adult life working in education. Her career began in the University of Guadalajara where she taught English as a Second Language (ESL) and helped initiate the first preschool program. Dana taught in the bilingual high school at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores where she developed curriculum for the first Social Sciences Department. She developed and taught Introduction to Sociology and Cultural Comparisons. 

Upon returning to the U.S., Dana earned a Master of Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh while managing the Western Pennsylvania Family Center, a nonprofit educational resource to mental health professionals and families. Among accomplishments at the Center, Dana wrote a grant funded by the R.K. Mellon Foundation, used to develop a library and children’s daycare center. 



Her husband’s career led them to Phoenix, where she purchased a stationery boutique, later converting it to an Internet business. Never losing sight of her passion for education, Dana focused on developing experience in education and nonprofit management by volunteering in local organizations and schools, and eventually went back to teaching for Gilbert Public Schools. Among her roles in Gilbert were District Special Education trainer for writing, Department Chair and Standardized Testing Coordinator.

Another change brought the family to Dallas where Dana began her role as Executive Director of ULC after having worked behind the scenes for years. Dana is currently working on plans for the library in Pilate, Haiti, plans for a library in Ouanaminthe, Haiti to open in 2012, a volunteer program, and a fundraising campaign.

In addition to the Master of Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University, Dana holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology/Anthropology and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina and is certified to teach by the State of Arizona. She speaks English, Spanish, French and Creole.
