Programs and Initiatives for Haiti:

Country Profile

1 - Adopt-A-School Program

* ULC will “adopt” at least one primary or secondary school per year in the country in which it is establishing a resource centre in an effort to better the resources available to the school.

* ULC will conduct an appeal to raise funds and materials to perform physical improvements on schools chosen to be in the Adopt-A-School program.

* A team of volunteers will travel to the country, reside with host families, to understand, strengthen and build community awareness and perform the work to improve conditions of the school. Volunteers will finance for their own airfare and are encouraged to find community support to do so.

* Included in the improvements will be such matters as renovation, interior decorating; providing and installing computer equipment; building shelves for books and shelving new books; training teachers to maintain the new resources and to assist students with the new resources; and, installing playground equipment.
